Koffi Olomide is a renowned Congolese singer-songwriter, dancer, producer, and founder of the Quartier Latin International orchestra. Born Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba on July 13, 1956, in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of Congo, he is known for his unique style of soukous music, particularly the slower style dubbed “Tcha Tcho”. Olomide began his musical career in the late 1970s, joining Papa Wemba’s band Viva la Musica as a songwriter and vocalist. In 1986, he founded Quartier Latin International, which has featured notable artists such as Fally Ipupa and Ferré Gola. Throughout his career, Olomide has achieved significant success, winning numerous awards, including six Kora Awards, with four of them won in a single evening for his album “Effrakata”. He has also been recognized for his contributions to the music industry, with his album “Haut de Gamme: Koweït, Rive Gauche” listed in the book “1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die”.
